Standard Paper Straws

Every complaint about paper straws is the same complaint: it went soft before the drink was finished. That is not a paper problem, it is a wall problem. A straw is wound from plies of paper and glued, and a 3-ply wall holds its shape long after a 2-ply has collapsed.

The adhesive matters just as much and gets discussed even less. A food-safe adhesive that keeps its bond wet is what stops the spiral seam opening up, and a straw that unwinds at the seam is finished no matter how thick the paper was.
